Laptop stuck on screen and keyboard unresponsive.

Hi, Please can anyone help me? I have an Advent Monza V100 laptop which is only 3 months old. Its been fine up to now but today has gone faulty. The laptop turns on and shows the Advent logo then goes onto the screen with the wallpaper and time but won't go any further (onto windows 8). None of the keys nor the mousepad are responding so the screen is just stuck. Help please. x

does it do the same if you power off by holding down the power button for 10 seconds first, does safe mode work, press F8 after switching on

I've looked on there but can't seem to find anything relevant. I'm not very technical minded I'm afraid. As for the computer choice it was a cheap option for my 9 year old daughter. I appreciate that it isn't the best make but didn't expect it to be broken in under 12 weeks. They have a technical helpline but its £1.50 per minute. Daylight robbery.

F8 isn't responding. None of the keys are. All I can do is switch on and off using the power button. x

Yes I've held down the button and tried the F8 when it powers up but still nothing. I don't think I have a disc. There's a wallet with two blank discs in it which I was supposed to make a physical backup of the built in recovery solution. I so wish I'd read this before.

got an external usb keyboard to try?

does capslock light up when pressed

do you need to recover any data?

try holding down shift and F8 instead of F8 at boot

does control alt del do anything after it's started up

got a manual that mentions factory restore procedure?

How long have you left it in that state? Occasionally mine throws a wobbler and sits there in a similar state for anything up to five minutes. Plug it in, switch it on, go have lunch or something and see if it's still the same. If it is, then you'll have to try some of the options in the posts above.

Unplug from the mains, take the battery out, sleep on it and see how it is in the morning.
