Storage costs, any ideas how much?

Hi

My family and i are moving into her parents house for a few months until we find a new house, so we are going to be putting our furniture etc into storage but was wandering if anyone can give me an idea on prices per week it costs to use a storage facility?

We're after something like 80sq ft, i've been quoted by Loknstore around £50 a week which doesn't even include insurance!

I didn't think storage was that expensive, any other ideas pls?

thanks

We put an entire 3 bed house into storage for an evicted tenant (including their junk and rubbish) and were paying £30 plus vat per week. I can't remember the square footage though.
  • We used our Tesco Clubcard points to buy vouchers for Big Yellow Storage Company, so that may make it cheaper for you if they are still doing that offer (it was 2 years ago).

About 7 years ago I rented two very small rooms at Big Yellow for around £80 a month. I think that there are cheaper places though.

I rented a garage for storage and that cost about £50 a month, only used it while our home was renovated.

Do you have any friends or relatives with garage space?

Not really unfortunately, i did think of a garage but worried about our furniture getting mouldy or damp?

We will be selling alot of our furniture so we can buy new stuff when we find a house to move into so we won't have too much to store.

We want to save some money up towards a deposit by living with my partners parents but spending £200+ on storage a month is just alot of money to spend to store 2 sofas, a washing machine, 2 kids beds, bookshelf, chest freezer, lawn mower, 3 bikes and a few other bits!

I've got a 25sqft unit with The Store Room which costs £13 per week - a 50sqft unit is twice that.

If it helps gauge costs - a few miles up the M1 we regularly use a firm that charges £11pw for 6'x6'x7' crates - with a discount for multiple crates - this includes a basic insurance with the option to extend - on a self storage basis
