Airtricity
Options
ok So I signed up for a year with airtricity for a year, I changed from powerni. I have an old meter which is quite hard to read. And I hold my hands up and say I made a mistake, I read my meter wrong I added an extra 1000 units to bill! So to my surprise when I checked my bill online I was sitting with a £200 bill!It was my first bill with them. So I rang them up and after 2 phone calls I finally got to the bottom of it (I had read my meter wrong) So they said they would change my bill. However when I went on today I was sitting with a £180 bill for the two months! Some how they had still added an extra 1000 units again. So on the phone again to them and I told them again it should be 33xxx not 34xxx. I got the impression the man on the phone didn't believe me "so you have only used 300 units" " yes I work all day and am hardly in the house". So in his words he said he "would give it a go and send the new reading" So my question is would I be slapped with a fee if I leave them? It is my first bill (first two months with them) I am not happy and frankly I hope this new bill is correct as the thought of ringing them again makes me want to scream!! WHAT ARE MY RIGHTS? If I have any.........

I guess from your post that you have old type '5 dial' meter with contra-rotateing pointers - If this is the case, don't beat yourself over the head for a mis-read as they are notorious and regularly confuse company Meter Readers.
If it is a 5 dial meter then it is really old, well past it's designated service life and needs changeing - Contact Airtricity in WRITING heading the letter Complaint - Point out the incorrect billing despite their agreement to change it, and remind them that your meter is beyond it's service life asking them for the date when they will change it.0 -

Presumably you chose Airtricity as thay are the cheapest supplier for you (I know you don't get much of a choice in NI)
Why do you want to move to a more expensive supplier?
You will need to refer to the terms you agreed to with Airtricity as to whether or not there is any early exit fee applicable.
You have the right to be charged correctly. We all make mistakes. You've admitted your mistake and the supplier has agreed to rebill you accordingly.0 -
You'll only get charged a ETC if you are on a tariff which has one-we don't know your tariff. No free lunch, and no free laptop0
