HSBC to Lloyds transfer 2 days later!

Hi

I did some freelance work for someone, and on Sunday he transfered £900 from his online banking (HSBC) in to my Lloyds TSB account, he said that his online banking said the transfer would be made the next day (Monday).

On monday he rang his bank at 5pm and they said that the money had left his account on Monday at 7.30am.

It is now 6pm on Tuesday and i still havnt received anything. Is this normal? As i was under the impression it should clear within 2 hours. I rang my bank and they tell me he should check with his bank to trace the money. Im confused, can someone shed some light on this.

Thank you

Faster payments have till the end of the next day to credit.

Although most do credit within seconds.
Seems to be a lot of work on FP systems by all parties at the moment. Which would be the only reason for the message the payee got. Unless they clicked on pay on a certain day.

Perhaps get the other party to confirm the account details used.
Never ASSUME anything its makes a

You would usually expect it to arrive within minutes.

But it could turn up by the end of the following working day.

Have you checked the account number and sort code were accurate?

I don't know about HSBC, but when I've done a transfer to a new recipient with Santander it has often been referred for security checking and isn't actually sent until the next day.

Can business accounts not still use BACS?

Yes i confirmed all the details more than once, all is correct. Every time i ring Lloyds they tell me i need to tell him to chase it up with his bank, but when i tell him he assures me that he has sent the payment and that hes bank have told him that its left his account and he has checked and the funds have been taken out, he showed me a screenshot of his online banking so i saw the details he sent the money to were correct.

What should i do? Is it realistic to wait another day?

When setting up the payee in the list of bill payments in HSBC internet banking it is possible to enter the payee's name AND the sort code/account number for any account regardless of whether the payee's name matches the sort code/account number - so he could set up the payment to show your name and put his own sort code/account number for one of his other bank accounts

The sreenshot for recent transactions/statement only shows the name of the "payee" and not the sort code/account number that the payment has gone to

Sceenshots of the pages used when making the transfer would be more useful - so you could ask for a screenshot of that page
Perhaps ask the person to send a further payment of 1p and the sreenshot for the "payment success" page

If he sets up a fresh payee to perform the 1p payment (eg because he put your name and his own account number for the £900 payment) you would need to see the list of all his payees to see if your name appears twice as a recently paid payee cannot be deleted from the list of payees

My salary is paid into HSBC and I transfer amounts every month to my Lloyds account. It has always gone through instantly since FPS.

That was VERY informative thank you.
I suspected also that its a bit all fishy, because myself have transfered funds from account to account before and it has always been instant, and the max it has ever taken was 2 days and that was transferring from an American account abroad!

The money was for a website i designed for him, i have decided to take the site off his server and emailed him telling him i wont be able to do any further work until the payment is processed, I kind of dropped hint too that i didnt think he was being honest with me hehe.

    Thank you

If his account is a business account, He possibly pays all bills by BACS as I believe there's a fee involved for business use of FP.
