Bluetooth dongle on a tablet?

Hi All,

I've recently bought a Yarvik tablet for watching stuff in the gym but it's not got bluetooth. I'm looking to get a bluetooth dongle for it so I can connect up my bluetooth headphones like I've done with my pc at home.

Any ideas if that'll actually work?

Thanks

  • Probably not as tablets don't tend to have normal USB A connections, which is what most bluetooth adapters connect with.

Seems unusual for a tab to not have bluetooth built in.
  • Hi, it does have a USB connector in if that'll help?

It won't work, most likely because whilst you can connect almost anything to a tablet with an OTG cable (your tablet might have come with one - its a short mini usb (for tablet) to normal size usb inline SOCKET (for dongle, stick etc) - or you can buy them easily enough its almost certain your tablet won't have the neccesary driver software on board and you won't be able to get it.

Most tablets have some drivers built in for some common things like memory sticks or Huawei 3G Dongles but not much else.

However I do have a solution, you can get a small plug in Bluetooth transmitter that plugs in the headphone socket and will link to headphones. A quick look at Ebay I found this... but there are probably plenty of other...

Just be careful as some units out there are transmitters and some are receivers - you obviously need a transmitter.

I recently had a Time 2 tablet and that had USB conector, it would recognise a mobile mobile dongle but it would not recognise any bluetooth dongle I tried, so it would appear that no Bluetooth generic drivers were installed in the Android operating system, and it does not appear that you can add them in.

It seems to be a backward move not to include generic Bluetooth drivers, as there are many uses for this device with tablets.
