Using EA mortgage side and they cover stamp duty-is this right?

Just had a call from one of the well known agents B E*es, they told me as I'm FTB they have an offer at present that if I sit with them and use their mortgage office I can get my stamp duty paid should I buy property via them. I did say to them I have a mortgage broker and AIP already in place but I have to say its very very tempting to have the chat and use their mortgage office but that cynical part of me wonders what the catch is?

May decide to go their office this w/end to discuss and so I get idea as to monthly repayment mortgage Vs the aip I currently have. The EA said that this offer is 'flying off the shelves' witht he FTBs...obviously I took that comment as pinch of salt but if I could save a good 2.5k on stamp duty I'd take it for sure...espcially as I find most properties I like are via their side.

Does this sound legit to you? Has anyone had this exsperience?

Nothing on their website - my guess is they're offering to pay it to get a buyer on something that's not shifting, or to get you on board to use their services (commission - kerching!). I think they occasionally offer to pay SD on some properties, but I doubt it's a deal for all FTBs. You might want to check their office window/website for such offers. Am sure they'd be plastered everywhere if that was the case.

If you can still use your own mortgage provider, be aware they might not permit it.

Good that you have your own AIP, etc. Suppose it can't hurt to compare, but theirs probably isn't 'all of market', and I would never usually suggest using the EA's 'services', etc. It's all about commission for them.

Make sure there's no additional cost to you!

Halifax are offering a deal whereby they pay the stamp duty on certain mortgages. Its probably just one of their deals theyre passing off as though theyre paying it?

Aye. Available on Halifax products direct or via a broker. You don;t have to use a Countrywide agent to get the stamp duty paid on £125k to £250k at 1% of purchase price.

Ah, that's probably more like it. No wonder they earned their old nickname (am sure most of you will know it lol)!

I'd definitely call their bluff. Ask direct if it's the Halifax deal, and to see documentation about BE's 'FTB offer' which is apparently flying off the shelves... Watch them squirm.

    Sneaky.
