Head Gasket-Peugeot 206

Options
Peugeut 206 1.1lx (V reg- 65000 miles)

The Head Gasket was replaced by a local garage last July at a cost of some £360. It has now gone again (10 months later) The same garage state that there are reluctant to do it again as the say there could be a fault somewhere within the engine that could cause it to go again.

Have now booked it in to local Peugeot dealer and awaiting report back from them.( Maybe I should have gone to them in the first place but I had no reason to think my local garage were not capable of doing the job and also a damn sight cheaper than Peugeot)

Speaking to a mechanic friend he says that the garage which originally repaired it might not have done the job properly (try proving that though) therefore distancing themselves from the original job.

My questions are;

Is it feasable that the head gasket can go in less than a year? on a car that has only done 65000 miles.

Am I chasing a lost cause here,do peugeots have a history of this?

Obviously I am still awaiting the official post mortem from Peugeot but I reckon it might be time to look for another car.

How fast and hard has it been driven?

Headgaskets go when the car has been absolatly hammered, and even then it lasts until closer to 100k.

I think wait and see what Peugeot have to say but I think it would be the garage did something wrong last year

Its only covered short distances and only did about 8000 miles from when it was first done to now. Its the wifes car and she is quite a good driver (probably better than me) and doesn't go above 70.
It will be interesting to see Peugeots diagnosis on this and whether they might be able to detect if the previous repair wasn't completed correctly.
    Thanks.

Did the garage have the head skimmed when they changed the head gasket???
If they did the job properly the head should have been skimmed and the new head gasket fitted.
If they did not then this would be the reason the gasket has gone again in such a short time.
As far as I know there are no problems with these Peugeots and head gaskets.

My mate had the same problem with his 206, same sort of miles.
Second time it went he decided it was time to change his car.

I remember them saying they had to send the head away to be skimmed, hence the time it took to complete the job.

Hopefully my local Peugeot dealer may be able to reveal whether the job was completed correctly but I have my doubts as to whether they can say with 100% certainty about the validity of the job.

    Thanks for help

If it's the same as the citroen engine there may be rubber seals at the bottom of the piston liners, these often need changing especially if the engine overheated.
