tesco.com (electrical)

Did anyone else order electrical goods from tesco.com during their July sale?

I will try and keep this brief as I don't want to bore you all.

Couldn't order on my first phone call as I didn't have the correct codes for either free delivery or the sale price. They were NOT on the web site. >:(
Several expensive calls later I successfully ordered my fridge freezer only to be called back to be told my credit card check had failed. >:( >:(
This turned out to be because they had tried to charge a different account. >:( >:( >:(

Fridge arrived on due date however no packing was removed despite website stating this would happen and twice being told on the phone that this was standard procedure. >:( >:( >:( >:(

Got home to find the wrong model (albiet very minor differences) had been delivered. >:( >:( >:( >:( >:(

Got no satisfaction when I rang to complain. Had to use the fridge as delivered.

Almost 7 weeks and 3 letters later still no response from them...

Wish I'd paid the higher price at Iceland

I bought a washer dryer from them and the first order went completely pear-shaped. I was promised a call within half an hour of placing the order to confirm delivery time and date. A lady duly called back only to inform me that she was unable to comply because Tesco does not know if the manufacturer has stock. I was just told to wait for a call from the manufacturer with no time scale given. Complained but got nowhere, no service.

Some 3/4 weeks later the manufacturer called on Friday and left a message on my home telephone to say that they were going to deliver on the following Tuesday if they did not hear back from me to the contrary. What sort of timescale is that? So I hastily arranged for time off on the Tuesday and called the manufacturer on Monday to get an exact idea of delivery time, and whether they would take away my old machine, connect the new one etc (which was the deal I signed up to with Tesco for this purchase). The manufacturer said they had no instructions from Tesco re the extra bits and all they would do is to deliver the machine to my door and leave it there - ur, hmmm, I live on the second floor and I am female. You can imagine my rage. So I rang Tesco back and gave them what for! In the end, a helpful lady agreed to cancel my order and reorder another machine from another manufacturer. I was informed that the delivery organised for the following day was therefore cancelled.

Good job I rang the manufacturer later that Monday out of old fashioned courtesy to make sure that they knew of the cancellation. It turned out that Tesco never passed the info on.

The second time round went smoothly. I think it was probably because the alternative machine I chose was in stock and the processing of the order was something "unexceptional" - i.e. Tesco cannot deal with exceptions, only the most basic scenario.

The good thing was that Tesco only charged my credit card several weeks after the second machine was delivered.

It won't put me off buying electricals from Tesco again, but I do caution active management on the buyer's part of the order! :-/
