I want to move house! - stupid question enclosed!

Hi,
I really want to move house! We live in a small 3 bed house (our first house), it is a new(ish) build and we have just outgrown the house.
Now, my DP says he wants to move too....BUT he hasn't put our house up for sale yet  .
Am I right in saying that we should put our house up for sale THEN start looking at other houses. My DP seems to think that we should look at houses as and when we see them, then put our house up for sale when we see one we want.
I just feel like we will never move and I am beginning to hate where we live.
Thanks,
Zippy x

I think it depends what you will be looking for. I would look around first to see what your options are then put yours up for sale when you are ready. If there are several you could move to there will be one when you are ready. If you think yours will be difficult to sell put it up soonerDoing voluntary work overseas for as long as it takes .......
My DD might make the odd post for me0 -

I have been looking on rightmove tonight and got the details of about 10 houses which look ideal for us and within budget. I wouldn't have thought that our house would take too long to sell.

if you find a house you like, someone else may also like it. If they are on the market/sold then unless you offer a better bid a vendor will always go with someone who is sold. Assuming you can/will sell quickly is often a stumbling block, likewise you may not get what you expect in other peoples offers. You lose nothing by being on the market.
Most purchasers wll hold off whilst you find somewhere to buy yourselves, in reverse, few sellers will hold off whilst you find a buyer.0 -
I would put it one the market, get an evaluation... you don;t have to acept an offer unless you're happy with it.
It's a harder to process to find, offer then sell than the other way round and it can cost you financially0 -
Thanks.
Basically I am rightand my Dp is wrong

If you find a house you like, the vendor won't take you seriously if you don't have yours up for sale (or perhaps if you don't have an offer on it).
So I would get it on the market quickly (also to avoid HIPs) if you're thinking of moving.Errors of opinion may be tolerated where reason is left free to combat it. - Jefferson0 -
Id agree with the above. We had an offer accepted but they wouldnt remove from the market, when we were only on market and not under offer. Then when we finally went under offer they said sorry we decided we can't proceed on that amount.... so a waste of time for us and we had to quickly find an alternative house.
Moral of the story is dont make offers until you are under offer. But definitely be looking around and have a few places you like under your arm ready when you are on the market.0 -
We are selling our house and have accepted an offer. We have not seen anything we really want and are taking going to rent for 6 months. When we see something we will be as first time buyers again so will have no chain on our side to worry about. This will benefit us and the seller of any house we buy so we will be in a better position to buy.0
