Posting to Russia - how safe

Although I state UK only in my listings I've been asked the cost of posting to Russia.
The item is low value but nonetheless I don't want to end up with an IRN claim.

hi i have been sending parcels to Belarus for the last 10 years ( i know it is not Russia but it's next door) NOT a single parcel went missing. i sent them both by secure and not secure mail. can be a bit long. up to 2 month  but i have a rule if the parcel is under £36 + postage( around£10) send by normal mail if over then by secure. hope it helped.
P.S. i dont sell just have a family over there so DO NOT know how you gonna prove it if it does go missing.( Royal mail require receipt)Jan GC £66,82/100 Jan NSD 17/31; Feb GC £71,67/100 Feb NSD 14/28;Mar GC £81,82/100 Mar NSD 16/31;Apr GC £99,54/100 Apr NSD 14/30; May GC £127,20/100 May NSD 12/31; June GC £70,05/100 June NSD 17/30; July GC £47,52/100 NSD 05/310 -
I sell books and records on ebay. There is a market for rock LPs in Russia and I have sent 20 or so there without any problems.0

It's a bargain I can send a small packet to Siberia or the Bering Straights for the same price as Calais in France. Actually, it's more like *really expensive* to send something to Calais in France but there you go.Warning: any unnecessary disclaimers appearing under my posts do not bear any connection with reality, either intended, accidental or otherwise. I have reluctantly blocked Russia now for around 18 months due to huge delays in delivery. EBay used to have a warning on their community boards about Russia and delays , but I think that has gone now.
It is a shame as they were a big market for my antiques, but even the buyers accept that it can take 2-3 months for stuff to clear their customs and that they will elect a protective refund before then.I’m a Forum Ambassador and I support the Forum Team on the eBay, Auctions, Car Boot & Jumble Sales, Boost Your Income, Praise, Vents & Warnings, Overseas Holidays & Travel Planning , UK Holidays, Days Out & Entertainments boards. Royal Mail site still have a warning ongoing from last year about delays:
http://www.royalmail.com/service-update/international
Start date: Tuesday 13th November 2012 (updated 10th April 2013)
End date: Ongoing
Problems within Russia Post operations at Moscow DME Airport and at their processing facilities in Moscow are continuing. This is causing delays for Royal Mail items due for delivery in the country.. Royal Mail is working with Russia Post to both quantify the length of the delays expected and also to work on ways to minimise any of these delays.I’m a Forum Ambassador and I support the Forum Team on the eBay, Auctions, Car Boot & Jumble Sales, Boost Your Income, Praise, Vents & Warnings, Overseas Holidays & Travel Planning , UK Holidays, Days Out & Entertainments boards. They supposedly have 500 tonnes of mail backed up, waiting to clear customs. So anything you send is going to take forever to get there.0
