Pension credit but won't claim...

I have an elderly friend who I am almost certain would qualify for Pension Credit and I did persuade her to apply about 2yrs ago but as soon as she realised that she would have to send her bank statements for proof of her income she told them where to go... Any ideas how I can persuade her to re-apply ? She is 81yrs old and only has her state pension and a very small pension from her deceased husbands pension.. No savings...

I have tried everything to convince her but she just says I am not telling strangers what money I have coming in (its not much either) and is adamant she would rather manage without . She just about manages but it would make such a difference to her but she is stubborn ............thoughts anyone?

It is a huge problem with the elderly. This is why the basic state pension should be set at the pension credit level. If she is adamant that she doesn't want to open up her finances to scrutiny then I guess there is very little you can do. Shame though, if she is entitled it could make a huge difference. Does she claim any council tax benefit?

Thanks krisscross I guess I just have to respect her wishes but its so damn annoying especially as there really isn't anything to 'hide'. She does get the 25% discount for single occupancy...

    thanks for your thoughts
