Hi all,
Need some quick advise from the experts here. I have recently moved address on the 12th of April. However, I could not contact the Car insurance people. I was constantly leaving messages on their website for a call back without any luck. However, this is not the issue. I rang them today and told them about the address change. They took all the details from me and put that in the system. The system then said that they cannot insure me because the area I moved to is a category D or type D area (The area is posh with secure building and parking). They said they will waive off my £50 cancellation fee and give me 10 days to look for a new insurance. I do not know what to do. I asked them about my NCB (Will be 5 years in June 13), they said that I will revert back to 4 years and they cannot offer me 5 years no claim bonus. This is wrong and I am flabbergasted and disgusted to the core. What am I supposed to do. Please help! Just received their email with the usual forms and stuff but it all is insinuating that I cancelled the policy whereas I have not. The insurance is Octagon insurance.
Also, please tell me that would my premium of my new policy go up as my policy was cancelled in the mid-term? Initially I paid my policy in full.
Thanks to all in advance.

Ask Octagon whether they can persuade their underwriters to continue the policy until renewal. Then you are then not disadvantaged as much by losing the chance of moving up to 5 years NCD, plus you don't end up having paid in full for a policy lasting only 10 months.
If they can definitely not arrange cover at your new address, then you will only get NCD proof of 4 years, when they cancel the policy. This is not a cancellation you would have to disclose. It is just a policy that ended early, as they could not transfer the policy to your new address. When the Insurers say you cancelled the policy, they mean because you moved to an address their underwriters don't insure vehicles, that the cancellation is based on your action, not theirs.
See if you can get Octagon to speak to underwriters again. If no joy, just arrange elsewhere. The comments I post are personal opinion. Always refer to official information sources before relying on internet forums. If you have a problem with any organisation, enter into their official complaints process at the earliest opportunity, as sometimes complaints have to be started within a certain time frame.0 -

I think you need to read the OP post.
Octagon are stating the OP cancelled the policy to get around the fact that s/he would have to tell all new insurers that his/her policy was cancelled for years.
If the OP complained to the FOS, then to put him/her back in the position s/he would be Octagon would have to make sure it didn't look like they cancelled the policy and for Octagon this must be the easiest way of doing it.I'm not cynical I'm realistic

Either way, it is not a cancellation that needs to be disclosed. Insurers cannot do the change of address, as they don't insure vehicles at the new address.
But yes you are correct that they enter that the policyholder cancelled, as saying that the Insurers cancelled may be interpreted wrongly. The comments I post are personal opinion. Sorry apologies! I am confused. What is OP? No idea what is meant by you olly300? Please can you elaborate in simple English. Thanks.0

OP Octagon are implying you cancelled because they clearly have a poor system where they cannot generate letters to indicate they cannot insure you at your new address.
If they don't do it this way and state they cancelled, then you will have problems getting all forms of insurance for years to come.I'm not cynical I'm realistic
