Travel Insurance or Home Insurance

Hi,

Had a quick question about what Travel and Home Insurance cover.

We travelling to Canada in a few months and will be hiring a car. As we're doing a lot of travelling our luggage will be in the car quite a bit and it may be parked in different areas.

I was wondering does travel or home insurance cover any theft of our personal effects from the hire car, if we take precautions like locking it in the boot etc.

If not, is it possible to ensure personal effects with other insurance ?
We won't be taking much that is of value and things like cameras etc we'll keep with us, but it's possible we might suffer some form of theft and I want to be sure we're covered.

You will need to check the policy terms and conditions of each type of policy. Normally Insurers won't want anything to do with a loss related to something that is unattended i.e not within arms lenght and in sight.

Think you will have to stay with your luggage and when you can't then you will have to find a safe storage place. Many visitor attractions will have lockers or other secure storage. Hotels will often look after luggage for short period, even if you have signed out.
The comments I post are personal opinion. Always refer to official information sources before relying on internet forums. If you have a problem with any organisation, enter into their official complaints process at the earliest opportunity, as sometimes complaints have to be started within a certain time frame.

Both may give cover, depending on the exact terms and assuming you have PP cover on your Home. Travel's cover tends to be fairly limited on luggage even with the higher policies and also normally indemnity rather than new for old.
