Hello

Quick question.

I have seen something on the internet which I want to buy but it's a Monday only deal and I really want to purchase it. I unfortunately have no money in my bank but payday is tomorrow. As it's now after 5pm, could I purchase it (if the bank accepts the companies request) and no receive any bank charges.

I have a lloyds classic account and it says I can make payment before 3.30pm without having a charge for that day. Does this mean if I make payment now, after being 3.30pm I'l be charged or do I have till 3.30pm tommorrow to have the money in my account. My wages will be in well before that

Kind Regards

Rather than taking a gamble could you not wait until next Monday?
    What will your verse be?

Interesting question and i can answer this for you. For months I thought if the account went overdrawn after 3.30pm I had until following day to bring back into credit and provided it was no later than 3.30pm that day. Never received any fee or interest charges.

Then one day I received a statement from Lloyds charging me the £6 fee and interest of 35p. I queried this with their complaints dept and they said I had been lucky no charges had been applied to my account before BUT if you go overdrawn after 3.30pm then you will be charged even though the account went back into credit the next day by 3.30pm.

Because I complained they very kindly gave me £10 compensation and waived the fees.

So based on the above you will charged.

Good result considering you had no real basis for a complaint!

  • When I say Monday only deal, it's just this Monday I think, not seen the offer any previous time. I'm saving around

I might just wait till midnight and hope the deal remains

    Thank for the responses

Have you got any friends who could buy it for you?
  • Get a payday loan! (No, don't!)

I guess it depends on how much the saving is for buying the item today. Worst case scenario is that Lloyds slap you with a fee (£6 may be standard) but as far as I know, that shouldn't do any lasting harm to your credit rating.

If we're talking about a significant saving buy purchasing today then I'd be tempted to do it. Bear in mind that the payment might not even be authorised though.

Ultimately, it's your decision, ye pays yer money...etc. Toss a coin!

if you're that short of readies then best advice is to manage without it, save the money. This is MSE after all :-)
