Should The Clutch Belt Be Checked In A Service/MOT?
I know nothing about cars and wasn't very happy today when my partners clutch belt broke and we had too be towed home.
The main reason I was not very happy was the that the car had just had a Major Service and MOT on Monday and was supposedly in full working order, with NO recommendations for any work to be carried out.
Does anyone know if the clutch belt should have been checked in either the Service or MOT?

I guess you mean clutch cable as no such thing as clutch belt, and no they wouldnt of checked in an mot or major service, they would never know when one was going to go, could happen at any time.0

If it's referred to in the vehicle's service schedule then it should have been replaced or checked as appropriate. My guess is if it's in there at all it will be at a major service after quite a long time and miles.
Unfortunately MOT's don't check much and I doubt they would check the clutch cable.0 -
Most garages (i.e. dodgy ones) check very little, and still tick all the boxes, and charge you accordingly. A basic service is little more than an oil and filter change on most cars, and even a major service is little more than changing a few filters and sparks plugs. . That’s why DIY is best, you know exactly what’s done:beer:
However its very difficult to check a clutch cable, if it operates ok then there not much that can be done, you have just been unlucky.
The only rough rule is if the clutch is heavy the cable may break, but until you have driven other cars of the same make its difficult to compare.
What car is it ?0 -
Maybe the op means cambelt?
If so not usually part of service checks but the recommended time/mileage for replacement should be in vehicle service book or as advised by dealer depending on vehicles use.
A car can usually be driven with a broken clutch cable thus avoiding towing expense. Only as a "get you home" measure though.0
