My attitude to cars is spread the depreciation out over as many years as possible and run it into the ground until it costs megabucks to fix.

Presently I am on the sixth year of a 11,250 purchase (realistically it's worth about 1k now). Thats 1700 a year. Can't wait to get to Feb 2008 and then I can divide the depreciation between 7 years!

    Hi

That is how I intend to go from now on. I am easily bored and in the past cars have only lasted 18 months to 2 years and then I would get rid - and that has probably cost me a small fortune. Anyway, now I have decided to become more sensible. I have a low depreciating car, and I have had this for the last 2 years and I intend to run this one for as long as I can really
  • Ahhhhhhhhhhh waht have I started:eek:

Thanks for the tips guys, one question though what's an OP:confused:

I forgot to mention that Ive just raised £4k from selling various things so that will pay off some of the debt on the credit cards.

Northern Rock have agrred to give me a personal loan at 7.4% over 84 months but thinking what to do really.

I do know how ive spent £15k (holidays etc) and i realise it's easy to do but I guess most on here have done the same thing:A

If you have 15k on credit cards, it would be wiser not to buy a car for £15k and pay off your credit cards - if I were you, I'd get a car for 5k and pay the debt off... but is this going to make a vast difference to your monthly repayments?

Debt is so easy to get into, but so hard to get out of.

You wouldn't want to be in a worse off position.

It really isn't worth it, and a car loses so much value the minute it's driven away!

If you come back to post again, have you bought a new car then?

I feel so sorry for this persons other half. I am in the position that she is in and its not easy to stay with this bloke. He has handed over all his financial dealings to me to sort out (with his money, not mine and still in his name).

How can people be so stupid when they are already in big debt? Both my sons are going the same way and there is nothing I can do. They are 17 and 20 years old and already got a bad credit rating. I do worry about what life is going to be like for them.

And this person is deliberately, coldly, getting himself in more. As Victor Meldrew would say "I don't believe it"?
I'm stressed enough over this - please don't add to it.

100% agree with you... it is so easy to spend, yet so hard to pay back - a long range reality check when buying anything is really good to do. Also, sleeping on it and asking the question to yourself - "do I really need it" before commiting
  • You should speak to a proper motor finance company who i would think could arange this very easily for you - they did for me last month! I actually 'contract hired' a car this time because it was so cheap to do - A BMW Z4 for £350 per month - amazing! I've got the guys number if you want to talk to him - I'd better not put it on here but if you would like it then drop me a mail and I can forward it to you. Good luck with whatever you choose.

    Hi

I have been looking for a car and I want to buy a Fiesta ST and one of the best prices I saw was online at 4 wheels 4u - maybe if the OP is determined to buy a car then using an online broker may cut a few 100 to a couple of 1000 off the price. If I were him though I would want to clear outstanding debts first - a bit
