Do i need my PIN number to deposit cash into Halifax?

I need to deposit cash into my bank account tomorrow, but unfortunately i can't remember my PIN number. I haven't used my Halifax bsnk account for nearly over a year, but i have a faint memory of depositing cash or cheque without needing my PIN.

I know that with my Natwest account i have to enter my PIN, but with Halifax i do vaguely remember not needing my PIN.

Anybody here who is an Halifax customer and be able to remind me?

Thanks

Last time I did, it did. But if you explain that you cannot remember they should be able to override the system....
Lets face it if you lost a card, they cannot block you from paying money in...

Ask them for a PIN readvice as well. Then change it to a number you can remember.

  • It might do at the cash machines that allow deposits, but I'm sure you don't need to enter a pin at the machines that are specifically for depositing cash and cheques. Failing that, you can deposit at the counter with just the card.
  • No, you don't need a PIN, for the counter, or the Immediate Deposit Machine.

They have two types of machine:

IDM (Immediate Deposit Machine) - these are the ones inside branches that you can only use for paying in cash & cheques, and give you a picture of the cheques on the receipt. You do not need a PIN for these machines. They credit cash instantly.

ATM - the standard cash machines, that give you an envelope to put your money in. You do need a PIN for these, and the money won't credit your account until (at best) the following working day.

They also like many others have started asking you to enter card into reader, when paying in at the counter.
Last time I had to enter PIN as well, but there maybe ways round this. Like when I send the Mrs to pay into my account.....

I paid cash into my new Halifax Current Account over the counter last Monday, I merely handed over my card and the lady gave me a receipt.

However, much like LTSB they did have Chip & Pin Terminals, they always require you to use your pin when paying in so I guess Halifax will soon.

You will only need your PIN if depositing at one of the ATMs.

Counter/Immediate Deposit/Express Deposit does not require a PIN.

PIN is only required for withdrawals.

Care to explain why I was asked to enter my PIN when depositing a cheque at the counter then.... This has been for the last couple of times.
    Also Santander do the same.

This maybe not the case at ALL branches, but certainly is at the one I use. :D

I had to use the chip and pin machine when I deposited a cheque at the counter last week as well. Surely they must be able to override it though if you can't remember your pin. After all they want your money!
