not if a !!!! up puts me a few hundred quid out of pocket. however i will look at some links.

How can changing a battery put you a few hundred quid out of pocket? You can fix it in the time you've spent posting theories as to why it maybe doesn't need changing.
You a) remove the side panel or cover from your PC (usually 3 or 4 screws or nuts) and b) remove the old CR2032 from the motherboard and replace with a new one.
You've also been provided with the manual link by espresso so you can easily identify the battery.
Alternatively a local PC engineer will do it for you, but probably charge you at least £20 for doing so.
With the date wrong, you'll get a lot of 'security certificate expired' warnings, as the browser is working to the old default date until it resynchs online.
It's nothing to do with Adobe Reader. The problem is simply your dying battery.
No free lunch, and no free laptop ;)

had to have a peek at this continually bumped thread to find out how a "replace a watch battery" thread gets to 30+ posts. Still not fixed apparently.

    Me too lol.
I progressed from the battery to installing new ram you know! :T
All as a result of asking on here. Didn't have clue how to open the lid initially
I have got some sympathy tho because when I posted here 18 months ago that I had this problem with the clock I thought you was all having a laugh telling me its a battery lol. I thought computers were more complicated than that!
Now I love to tinker ;)

it doesnt prove anything for sure does it. i tried it to see what would happen thats all. the issue coincided with my security flashing up a vulnerability with adobe reader. so it may well be connected to that for all i know. although i have updated it since.

First you ask us for help because you're apparently unsure of the cause.

Then, many folk, including me, tell you the real cause and the cure.

Now, you're telling us it 'doesn't prove anything' ....??

Look at that manual posted above, look at some online links on how to change it, and change that battery.
