Getting different Howdens quotes?

Hi there,

We are about to move into a new property and the first job is to renovate the kitchen / diner.

I have seen a Howden's kitchen that I like the look of, and have a builder lined up to provide a contact with them to design and quote.

I however want to get a couple of different builder quotes, both on the different renovation work, and also the kitchen (i know builders can add a premium / take a cut of Howdens). What is the best way to do this? Once I have the design and quote from the first builder, will I be able to hand this design on to another one to quote for me?

Also on Howdens...I have read that the kitchens are good, but to buy the accessories from elsewhere? Makes sense to be, but would welcome any recommendations on where to consider looking for the accessories (e.g. over, fridge, washing machine etc).

Any help would be greatly appreciated

Steve

Personal opinion, I think you are correct on the appliances.

Howdens will design a kitchen with you and then you can get the builder to price it so no need to go through them. You can then give the same design to each builder to ensure you are quoting for the same product.

I've recently had a new kitchen, and had Howdens out to do a design.

They emailed the plan direct to me, so I could make any changes. Once you're happy with the design they would let your builder/fitter have the price, who would then tell you what it's going to cost you.

I didn't go with them in the end, but did take their plan to B&Q and Wickes to see how their prices compared.

I got my appliances (oven, hob, fridge/freezer, dishwasher, washing machine, cooker hood) from here -http://www.appliancesonline.co.uk/

I was kept informed by email and text, chose the delivery day I wanted, and a 2 hour window. All items arrived on time and in the same van. I'll be happy to use them again.

i agree with jellie about appliancesonline, they have very useful video reviews. would also suggest you look at boots domestic appliances (yes boots the chemist!) - similar prices to appliancesonline but you get advantage points as well. i could be wrong but i have a suspicion that the 2 companies are linked somehow.
