E.on tarrifs - NOT just the plans

Options
My Age UK Fixed Price Saver ends on 1 Jun 13 and Eon say that they will move me to their energy Plan. They state that I can contact them on 1 Jun to move to another plan.

On looking on their web site and viewing the various plans available today (five in total) I note that the plans are shown but the tariffs are NOT, so I'm unable to see how much a customer (me) would have to pay for each unit of electricity or gas.

https://www.eonenergy.com/for-your-home/products-and-services/best-deal-for-you#

Are Eon being sneaky by NOT entering the tariffs and hopefully expecting a customer to phone them and they give them the tariffs over the phone and the customer will NOT be able to compare tariffs against other providers?

I'm also unhappy that they are applying a standing charge to ALL of their plans.

Could someone please give me a link to their tariffs and NOT just the plans?

We are low users and I believe that none of their new plans will be cheaper than the one I'm on at the moment and because I can't see the tariffs I'm unable to do some pre-changeover investigation.

I don't want to call them on a 0333 phone line either, (my pockets only open one way for putting money in, NOT taking it out.

Who should I switch to? Which switch engine should I use etc, etc.

Thanx

    Hi Archie

I'm sorry you've struggled to find details of the individual tariffs on our website.

Please follow the 'Get a Quote' link on the right hand side of the 'Best Deal for You' page. If you pop your Post Code and property number in and click through the next few screens, you'll come to a detailed quote based on the info you've provided.

This will give you an annual cost, again based on your info. If you then click 'Review Plan,' the unit prices will be displayed.

I can also confirm, all our plans now have a daily standing charge. This replaces our previous pricing structure where the first amount of kWh used were charged at a higher rate.

This isn't an additional charge but another way of covering fixed costs like meter reading/maintenance and the cost of keeping you connected to the gas and electricity networks.

Hope this helps. Give me a shout if you need any more info as will be happy to help.

  • Thanx for the links to the tariffs Not British Gas.

It's interesting to note that the prices shown on Eon's letter to me for the E.ON Energy Plan (the one they state they will stick me on wef 1 Jun) differs from the prices shown on the web. Agreed the prices on the web are shown as at 18 Jan 13 and the letter states what my charges will be on 1 Jun (provided I'm still with them of course!).

Web shows standing charge 26.09p for each.
    Elec Units - 14.19p
    Gas - 4.128

    Their letter to me

Standing Charge for each - 27.395
    Elec - 14.9
    Gas - 4.34

Perhaps that is an indication that E.on are putting up their charges on 1 Jun?

One thing I do read out of it all is that whatever happens if I stay with E.on, they will be getting richer and poor old Archie will be getting poorer still!

Each time I've played with a "Switch" web site it has always shown a cheaper alternative. Now being sceptical, I'd suggest that if I selected the displayed cheapest "Switch too" noted the details, logged off. went back to the same site and stated that I was on the plan they had previously stated was the best they would display another alternative, just to get me to switch. Or do they ever (yes ever) tell people that they are on the best plan possible and would be shooting themselves in the foot if they were to change?

    Thanx again
  • It's also interesting to note that those like myself living in a Manweb Region have the highest cost per unit of electricity. It's NOT exactly as if they have to "Truck it" to the North of Scotland. I wonder how they can justify a higher price?

    Thanx

    Hi again Archie
No the prices are the same, it's justthat one includes VAT the other does not.
If you add 5% to the web prices you get your letter price.
  • Thanx again Not British Gas.

The Eon site (once logged on) is pretty good IMO. I'm still NOT happy about paying a standard charge. I doubt if there is much savings on the following annual usage:

    Elec Units: 1834
    Gas Units: 6508

Of course that doesn't include the two boxes of candles!

As I've written above, playing with switch engines always shows (well it did for me) a better deal. I type in the provider I'm currently with and it suggests a plan with another provider. Then if I ask the same question stating that I'm on the plan they suggested it offers another plan with a different provider. A bit like a hamster in a wheel!

Thanx again Not British Gas and Malc from E.on

At that usage the standing charge will not make you pay more than you otherwise would have.
