Split or double saucepans, can you get them?

Years ago my parents had a saucepan which was divided in the middle which meant you could cook 2 separate things in one saucepan thus saving gas. Can you still buy them and if so where?

Thanks very much.

  • I think bettaware & lakeland plastic do such things. They 'might' be frying pan type things though.

    Worth a look!

Not sure about a saucepan which is divided down the middle, but when I left home to go to college my mum gave me a set of saucepan dividers - have just tried to find some on the net and the nearest thing I can see is from Lakeland, here:

My three all had holes in them, so slightly different, but very handy for a student with limited pans and hobs (a 2 ring Baby Belling between 18 of us!:p) - also very handy for hooking out veggies that cook at different times as they drained as you lifted the inner bit out, so no need to fish around with a slotted spoon or worry about under/overcooked veg as a result of having to drain things the conventional way!

I hope that somebody can answer this one! I remember the old 'split' saucepans. The set I had were actually two half-pans that sat side by side on the cooker ring. They were made by Swan, in aluminium and were very useful. Now that my family have grown up and left the nest, I wish I had them again.

I wrote to Lakeland a couple of months ago asking if they could/should/would stock them but sadly they replied that they had no plans to do so.

Would love to find someone who manufactures them in stainless steel. To pinch someone else's phrase - it's not easy being green (or moneysaving) is it?!

Edit to add: Had some of the saucepan dividers and couldn't get on with them. Whatever you cooked imparted its own flavour to everything else. Carrot tasting cauliflower didn't do much for me!

I bought a three segment frying pan from QD's a couple of days ago for 99p which is what set me thinking on the saucepans.

I have some which go inside the pressure cooker.

There is a nice stainless steel steamer at Argos for £9.95. I've just bought one for my student daughter. I've had one for years for cooking veg and it must have paid for itself a hundred times over.

  • Why on earth do you need three pans dividers a steamer etc when you can do everything in one pressure cooker at half the time?

Depends on the cooking times of the things you want to share a pan. My mum, bless her, used to chuck all the Sunday veg in the pressure cooker. Broccoli got the same cooking time as potatoes  No wonder I grew up hating the stuff!

I remember the pressure cooked veggies only too well. I have a steamer, but these multi-portion pans sound interesting.
