As a tenant myself, I find it so irritating to be told "Dont worry, you dont have to be there", when the LA want to come and do an inspection. Of course I want to be there, I hate the thought of strangers wandering around my home.

As a tenant I would not be happy with this approach either.

I would want an agreed time/day.

I think I may be misunderstood. I would expect him to give me a specific day that he comes round to do the test and inspection.

I have no problem the LL coming in, but I would prefer a day to be given, not just sometime over the next few weeks. That is my point, can he just say that and then come in when ever he wants....
Check back through the respond posts and you'll see that [edit:your] query has been understood.

No,the LL is obliged to give you proper notice - and simply saying "sometime over the next few week"s is not good enough. Negotiate for a mutually convenient date or ask for the gas guy's contact info and suggest to the LL that you make the arrangement direct.

You could just tell him that it is fine but as you wish to be there could he please give 24 hours notice once he knows exactly when he will be coming. Then if it is not suitable you have a chance to tell him.
