Masonry Paint

Hi,
We are going to be painting our house exterior in a few weeks and after tying lots of samples the colour we like the most is from the Homebase Weathercoat range.
Has anyone used this before and if so how good was it?
I am a little apprehensive as its cheaper than Dulux/Sandtex and I would not want to end up regretting using it in a few years time if its not as good quality as the bigger brands. We used the Dulux Weathershield on a breeze block wall last year and are very pleased with the quality/result.
Its an end of terrace house and we will be painting a mixture of brick and rendering and the side of the house will get a lot of wind/rain against it.
We are having some of the rendering repaired, putting both a waterproofing treatment and stabaliser on after we have cleaned it off. If all the repair/preparation work is done properly is there any reason why the Homebase product should be inferior to the other brands?

I used it about 6 months ago - it's not started peeling yet over a pretty rubbish winter... it's over both fresh render and existing old painted render.Tim0

If it was me I would go for Trade versions of the paint I did mine with Dulux weathershield trade. Not trade paint B&Q sell as that is still not as good as trade paint you can get from Dulux trade centres. You can get masonry paint that last 15 years now, Needlers amongst some trade counters sell it. You get better paint from trade counters rather than go to the sheds like B&Q0

Sandtex every time for me, a little bit more costly than weathershield but well worth the extra.Thoughts:

if you are painting the exterior you want something that is going to last , even if you pay a bit more for it , i use dulux weathershield for 99% of my exterior work , remember preparation is everything .....0

I did my house 5 years ago with dulux trade. I give it another coat 2 years ago due to me painting guttering. When I painted first I got rid of old paint on sills some one painted them with gloss. Mine has lasted well given we live on coast and salt air. Person who's house behind me painted over gloss on sills and its already coming off in less than a year. I agree prep is key, painting is easy part well it was for me, that said most of house has flat roofs around edge of house so easy to get with a combi ladder, dont need much of a large ladder, although I did buy one for maintenance
Its well worth getting good paint though as it will last longer if surface is good0 -

Thanks for the replies. Sandtex do a similar colour to the one we like and Homebase also have an extra 20% off paint this weekend so if masonry paint is included in that offer with the 20% off Sandtex they already have then think I will go for that.0

Southernsun, you aren't in the South West are you? If you are then Sandtex at Trago is less than half the price than it is in any of the 'sheds'0
