Is Tax Code 619T correct?

My father has recently gone into hospital and I am trying to keep an eye on his finances in the meantime.

He has been sent his pension scheme payslip and which has the tax code 619T which to me doesn't look quite right.

He is 82 and the gross amount for the month is 975.00.

Looking up the significance of a code ending in "T" suggests the following:

"If there are any other items we need to review in your tax code, for example the income-related reduction to the Personal Allowance (read more in the section 'Effect on your tax code if your income is above £100,000)'

Apart from his State pension, he has no other income.

Any thoughts /suggestions?

How much is his state pension? Would it be £85.80 per week per chance?

State Pension appears to be 110.15

That's 5727 a year. His personal allowance should be 10660 and, when reduced by his stae pension, leaves 4933 to set against his occupational pension i.e. a code of 493L.

I would query this - it coud be that all of his state pension is not taxable. There should be a breakdown of his code on a form P2 which would have been sent to him.

I'll see if I can find this form and see what's on there.

    Thanks for the pointers

It may be that the OP's Dad has an allowance for Married Couples. This would increase his tax code.

OP - is your Mum still alive?

T =temporary, call them up and say you think it's wrong, they will go through and get it amended.

I would hope that they refuse to speak to anyone other than the father at least until he gives the OK

T is not a temporary code, it is used for codes where HMRC have to check them for any increase, and issue the new code if required to the employer, they cannot be automatily increased by the employer, exactly as appears to be the case here.
