Cheque in married name

I've recieved a cheque in my old married name.
If I took it tot he bank with my Absolute showing I'd reverted back to my maiden name, would they pay it in (Halifax) or should I just send the cheque back?
I've called up online banking who couldn't say for sure and the bank is a half hour drive away.

Have you not contacted the issuer of the cheque explaining your change of name? With the branch being so far away would it not be easier to get the cheque altered by the issuer. I am just wondering if that would be more cost effective rather than an hour round trip wasting petrol and time to be advised that you cannot pay in.
You can phone Halifax branches direct nowadays. If you go onto their branch finder tool on their website, find the branch you need and it will show you their direct dial number. Sometimes speaking direct with a branch colleague who deals with these scenarios more frequently is better than searching online.0 -
Not sure if all banks do this but Nationwide allowed us to pay cheques in my wifes maiden name into our joint account (opened before we got married) a couple of months after we got married.
It's a bit pants that Halifax couldn't answer the question - this should be a company wide not branch based policy. Maybe as above you'd get a response phoning your branch direct.0 -

I did contact the issuer and all letters have been in my correct name. However now the cheque has arrived it's in the wrong name :rotfl: i can send it back, but it's abroad and all correspondance has taken weeks so far, but I guess I can do. Just thought I'd try it first. Wishful think and all thatForty and fabulous, well that's what my cards say....0 -

Just tried again but it's bounced again to branch support so may just be my branch is quite large and calls just automatically bounce to them.Forty and fabulous, well that's what my cards say....0 -

No they're just busy, branch size doesn't matter. You could always ask the branch support to try and put you through as they will have various alternative extensions or could even e-mail branch to call you back :beer:0
