off the wall ideas to find jobs?

Twice I have stumbled into a job.
First time I picked up the phone and called saying "have you any vacancies for an experienced salesman" I got a job I was happy with for 11yrs.
Second time, I remembered and regretted not applying for a job I saw in the local paper a few months before. So I called their HR and discovered they had chosen a candidate but she later turned the job down, did I wish to apply. I did and went to well not a job interview ir was more of an induction the job was mine if I wanted it and I am still here now 6yrs on
Moral of the story is get on the phone and ask I guess. GL0
