Credit card transaction

Options
I recently ordered something online for delivery to a store to collect but my order was lost on the delivery and I was completely messed around, being made to travel to the store three times (which is over 15 miles away) to find that it wasn't there, even though they had rung me and text me to tell me it was. so I was given a refund, but I was refunded twice. The company called me to tell me that they have refunded me twice and that they would take the money off my credit card again. That was the beginning of February and they have still not taken the money, I want to close the credit card account because I am trying to get my credit rating up, I feel slightly guilty that I should maybe ring them to tell them but I had such horrendous service that I don't feel that bad. I need some advice on what to do, how long do they legally have to take the money. If I close the account and then they try and take the money what will happen. When they said they were going to take the money again I gave them all the credit card details again so I haven't avoided paying its completely their error. But I'm not sure where I stand.

Any advice would be gratefully received.

Thanks

First of all, in most cases closing a CC account will not improve a credit card rating. In some cases it could make it worse.

Legally they have 6 years to claim the money from you even if they can't reclaim the money from the CC.

Closing the CC will not stop them reversing the refund - the account will be "woken up" again.

As the double refund was an error, I don't know how long the CC will allow them to correct the "error". If they did put it through much later and you disputed it, it would be pretty clear from the transaction history it was a mistake.

I appreciate you've been inconvenienced by these people. But you can't really use this to avoid paying the money unless you turn it into a formal claim for damages. Morally I think you've done enough to co-operate with these people.

Personally I'd just sit it out now!
