Santander Automatic Deposit Machine Error

Options
My partner used the automatic deposit machine in Santander to pay in our wages. This is the machine that counts the notes for you then instantly credits it to your account. He (perhaps stupidly) didnt count the combined total of our wages before feeding it in the machine but didnt expect a problem
Once he put the notes in and before the confirm page came up the machine failed and gave an error message, thus keeping our money!!!
He told the cashier who opened the machine to see £260 in the tub but the rest wrapped around the rollers. They retrieved the £260 and called an engineer but as they shut at 12 on Saturday we were told that he wouldn't get here till Monday (tomorrow)
The Cashier said we couldn't have the £260 they retrieved as the machine needs balancing and we couldn't do anything till the engineer had been.
I was upset by this point as they were prepared to leave us without any money until Monday and only once I started crying and asked to speak to a manager was anything else done.
We were made to sign a form releasing us the £260 (of OUR MONEY) which they took out of the tub inside the machine, but they made us sign to say that if there is any discrepancy we would be liable!
As its Monday tomorrow I'm expecting the money to be deposited t our account straight away, but I'm worried its going to take longer.
Has anyone else had a similar experience and did it take long to resolve?
I have DD's and Standing Orders due out tomorrow which obviously wont be paid until this money goes in.:mad:

As said, you need to wait for the engineer to service the machine and then need to wait for them to balance the machine. They'll hand over whatever is the difference, but I wouldn't expect it to be done Tomorrow, although I would expect it to be done by the end of the week.

Can I just ask if you think santander will waive any charges/fees incurred as a result of tomorrow's dds not being paid if this is the case.

Why did you want to pay in £260 in cash if you wanted to take out £260 cash?

We were trying to pay in £600 to our joint account- the £260 is what was visible (and removeable) in the deposit machine the rest was entangled in the mechanisms. We always pay all our wages in to our account then withdraw it as necessary.

Not an option for us as we both get paid cash on Fridays, (anyways looking at the recent RBS bank glitches with wages and the like I'm not so sure)
I thought using an automated machine inside a bank would be quite safe too!!!
