Looking to buy & setup a NAS and am currently leaning towards the Synology DS212J - any thoughts on this would be appreciated!
I am pretty sure I don't want a WD "My Book" (my experience with WD is that they are decent bits of kit but the software they bundle on make them almost impossible to use in any other way than that they feel is the way you should!) and the Buffalo linkstation ones seem to have very variable reviews
I did look at the Qnap TS212 & that looks reasonable ...
I am reasonably techie, but this is the first time I've set up a NAS so any hints/tips will be appreciated!

I bought the single drive equivalent (wish I had bought at least a twin bay but oh well!). The Synology software is so easy to use - it really is plug and play. I have seriously been considering an upgrade and I would definitely choose Synology again. Best of luck with it - you won't be disappointed.0

Synology has the best software, esp if you want it to do a bit more then a regular NAS.
I have the med sized ds 1511+ and its one of the best pieces of kit I have, its only been rebooted once in 2 years when I wanted to replace the power strip it was plugged into.
The only bad thing I can say about them is the cost, they tend to be on the most expensive side of NAS boxes.0 -
thanks guys - ordering today/tomorrow so hopefully will have it for the weekend ...
I'll probably be back asking for more help then
