I have just tried to sell my shares online. This is probably stupid but I thought you could tell them you wanted to sell the next day. Does the share market only let you deal online :eek:when the market is open. You can tell I haven't done this before.

Yes, but depending what broker you are using there should be an option to sell at 'best price' when the market next opens.
Some brokers also let you set the price that you are willing to trade at, and the trade will only go through when that price is reached.
Who do you use for online sharedealing?Never let the perfume of the premium overpower the odour of the risk0 -
I am trying to sell National grid through Capita. National grid open at 8.30 but the market opens at 8am. Will I have to wait till National grid opens or can I sell when the stock market opens? I am concerned as when I tried to sell the shares it now tells me that I have to phone them!!!!!!!!!!! Will that message goes when the market opens?0

Hi,
you can trade as soon as market opens.
Though if you are selling on a Sunday paper tip, then you will find that price will have been adjusted.0 -

i'm confused? - you are trying to sell national grid 'through' capita? is this a mistype?
also - when the market is open, they are all 'open' - other shares don't come on at different times!0 -

Capita are registrars for National Grid, OP can use them to sell their NG shares (prob a bit pricey to do so though) if they dont have a broker to use.

oh i see - learn something every day - 1) that you can sell shares through the registrar and 2) that capita are a registrar! (I work for them, but clearly a different division!)0
