first direct £125 plus 100

first direct say that if your unhappy after 6 months and decide to leave they give you another 100

would you need a reason to be unhappy to get that 100, or would it be enough to just say you wanted to leave

thanks

    Yes, you need to give a good reason, but they're very good. You won't be unhappy ;)

    I think it is a little short-sighted to close an FD account as long as they are still offering their marvellous Regular Savers.

    I'm planning on opening a First Direct account soon too but my main reason for not closing it would be to avoid kicking up a fuss with a company that is as likely as any other to be offering the best buy mortgage rates when I come to remortgage in 2 years time - it could be the most expensive £100 I've ever received :D

    Your point is more valid though as the difference between First Directs 6% Regular Saver and a 4% Regular Saver is a little over £30 per year for a basic rate tax payer (saving £300 per month).

    Ah, didn't think of mortgages since I don't have one myself, but if I needed one, that would certainly be another consideration.

    FD would have to do something unbelievably bad to make me move my mortgage from them.

    @marathonic - mature approach.

    @tir21 - forget about the £100. If you feel FD's service is so bad that you have no alternative to leave then it will be welcome conpensation. Remember, if you take the golden handshake you will be definitely blacklisted by FD from any future products forever and possibly HSBC too.
