replacing old boiler

Hi, I hope someone can help me to find out and decide if installer's job was done properly.
I've just have a new boiler installed replacing my old one - different flue levels so a new hole needed to be drilled through my kitchen wall to the outside, as old one was at a wrong level. Now I am looking at it and can fill a serious draft coming from behind. I’ve asked and he claims that 'everything is installed to building control standards' - apparently he covered the old flue hole with a thin plywood board and screw a new boiler together to a wall, without filling an old hole up and making it good. There was never any mention of it, until I've asked today - I thought it was an obvious part of a boiler replacement job - he obviously cut his cost. How does it fit in with regulations and his responsibilities as an installer? - was he obliged to fill it up or not? He is a certified engineer with Gas Safe, I am an older woman. I did not make a payment yet - want to find out before I do. Can you help, please?

Ignoring the 'everything is installed to building control standards' claim, this so-called 'professional' tradesman has left you with a hole through your outside wall??
If this is the case it's just shoddy workmanship and you are quite right to assume it's part of the job! Demand that he makes good the hole, and if necessary withhold part of the payment until the job is completed.

Thanks. This is how I feel. How big part of the payment should I withhold? He is coming tomorrow, ..

If its the only aspect of the job that you're unhappy with then withhold as much as you think it will cost you to get a bricky in to make good the work. £100 possibly? HTH.

No, it is not! Joined with a brown tape pipe under my bath is another proof of his standard... Do I need to mention that it leaks? This is like a nightmare!!! Gas Safe certified and accredited installer listed at a maker’s site, with own firm and website…

Tell your RGI that you are requesting a visit from GSR to check out the installation, perhaps this will incentivize him.;)

    Here's how.
