Damage to leather sofa

Thank-you! I think I get what you mean about the repairing!!! What you said about the stitches tearing was what i was worried about, which is why I wasn't sure if it could be done!!! It wasn't an expensive sofa, and we have had it a few years, but was just annoyed as I don't want to replace it till we wanted to (if that makes any sense!!!) Although I have wanted to redecorate for while, so perhaps I will get my way, and can then see if anyone would like the sofa on freecycle (who may be able to fix it better than I can lol)
Anyway, I will dfinatley look into your method a bit more and i'll let you know how it goes!!
thank-you!0 -
I was going to suggest that you use a square of leather then cover it with glue suitable for fabric leather etc then smooth the torn edges over it - but its been said! this does work but it isnt invisible but it IS better than sewing as the stitches can tear the leather and it looks worse than before!0

I know it sounds stupid, but I thought about putting a 'patch' over the top, but decided against it because it would look rather stupid-it didn't occur to me to put the 'patch on the inside lol
thank goodness i have you 'old stylers' to help melol

As this has fallen from the front page of OS, I'll add it to the existing thread on repairing leather furniture, which might give you more ideas

wow thats links fantastic.
our cat somehow made 2 tears in the seat of our sofa. our insurance doesn't cover it even tho we have accidentail cover. as it was made by a pet. but i've been on the link and it looks like for £15 the repair kit will do the trick.
also for the car seat. my hubbys car has a full leather interior and the seat ( car is 17 years old !) are looking really worse for wear. he'd be so chuffed to be able to make them look like new. we were thinking we needed to try and find a new interior for the car. Thanks lil me.0 -
Hi my sister told me earlier that she has somehow ended up with a rip in her cream leather sofa , I dread to think how and she said she doesn't know (she suspects her son and his friends were in the lounge messing about whilst she was at work) any way the rip is an "L" shape one about 7 inches down by about 5 inches across very visable have been racking my brains for how to repair it but have no idea any suggestions would be greatly recievedPaul Walker , in my dreams;)0

Hi, tell your sister to go down to the local craft shop and buy a bottle of hi tack craft adhesive which is suitable for cloth/leather and leaves a clear, flexible finish. Can't remember the name of it right now, but it is in a gold bottle.
Cut a piece of fabric to match the leather and slightly bigger than the tear. Cover one side of the fabric in the adhesive - it can get quite messy so she will need a damp cloth handy. Open up the tear and place the fabric inside, there is plenty of time to adjust the position. Close the leather over the fabric and adjust if necessary, making sure that the edges of the tear are as close together as possible.
Lift up the edges of the tear and add more adhesive, press down into the final position again and wipe off any excess glue from the face of the leather. Leave to dry and it should be a good repair.

I noticed yesterday that there is a tear in the side of one of the attached cushion seats on my leather sofa.
Is there a way to repair this 'A stitch in time' way?
I'm concerned if I leave it, it will get bigger.
I did take out 5yr insurance when I bought it 3 yrs ago, but from 'Land Of Leather' and they don't exsist any more.
Advice please.

Who is the insurance company behind the policy? There should be a name on the paperwork you got when you took it out (even if it is the small print)0
