Damage to leather sofa

A friend's child was visiting yesterday and while no one was watching used a sharp pointed toy to poke little holes in the arm of my newly recovered fake leather sofa. The holes are about the size of the point of a compass. The sofa was only recovered about 6 months ago in a shade to match other chairs in the room, and this cost more than £1,000 plus if it had to be recovered it wouldn't match the other furniture any more. I know this is a silly price, but it is a sofa bed, and this was cheaper than buying a decent new one, and also I thought (ironically now!) it would be a more hard wearing solution than fabric with two young children in the house.

I fear the only answer may be a throw of some sort over the arm of the sofa, but on the off chance that anyone has a magic solution to make the material swell a bit so that the damage is less obvious, I'm posting for advice.

All suggestions welcome

Has the little beast actually broken through the fabric, or are they just 'dents'

No real ideas, but if it is just dents, then they may spring back given time.

You can get arm rest covers for living room chairs and sofas. You would need to cover them all, not just the damaged item. If you got a few scatter cushions in a similar colour of fabric, you could probably achieve a "planned" look ;) .

Rotten luck though, I'm surprised you are not more vocally  .
    :D I haven't bogged off yet, and I ain't no babe :D

They are all the way through sadly. Look exactly like its been stabbed with a compass though it was just the pointed tip of a toy, clearly driven it at some force!

I've never heard of armrest covers though. Any idea where I'd be likely to track them down?

I am fed up, but having little ones myself, I do know that these things happen and it is mortifying to be the parent, so I am trying to keep things in perspective...

I got armrest covers for my sofas from M&S, they are not leather but fabric but they may do leather ones if you ask in store. I had to order them and they make them to order but it only took a few weeks, they were about £15 each I think. Or maybe you could try Land of leather or somewhere. What a pain for you!

I too was thinking something like this http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/6-ARM-COVERS-5-CHAIR-BACKS-IOO-COTTON_W0QQitemZ270121095280QQihZ017QQcategoryZ115763QQssPageNameZWDVWQQrdZ1QQcmdZViewItem but you would have to check the size, my Nana always had them on hers because my Grandad used to work on trains.

Would have suggested contacting the company who did the recovering and see how much they would charge to recover aswell.
One day I might be more organised...........

Funnily enough the same thought occurred to me last night, and I am, so this may be the way to go.

Thanks for all the ideas. Deep down I thought it was unlikely there was a clever fix it solution, but I'm always amazed at how inventive this site is, so thought it was worth asking!

I was thinking with the insurance but I know when my leather one was damaged it was about the same as the excess to get the arm recovered. This company is based near me and do leather repair things but unsure if it would work the same http://www.furnitureclinic.co.uk/Photos.htm

I wish I could thank you more than once lil me! That is a fabulous link and I think they will be able to sort this out for me as the damage to mine is much less than the cat one. I suspect I may be visiting this site more than once as I see that it has advice about all kinds of damage to furniture. You are a real star!!!

More than welcome, I forgot about them when I first read this.

I have used them but I wasn't paying, my suite was damaged when it was delivered, as it was 2 days before Xmas and my old one had gone to it's new home when I noticed I agreed to them trying to get the suite repaired and see how it went. The firm who's website it is came out and you could never tell where the problem was. More than happy with it, the guy did say was a very hard cream to match but he managed it. Hope they can help.
