I will second that as I have an alienware laptop that cost £2.3k, it really is the bo!!ocks.

It all depends on the budget. Can't go wrong at the mo with a Core 2 system, 1GB+ and 8800 graphics card.
Do you need to get it right now though?
Looks like the next batch of DX10 cards are nearly ready to be released leading to a big drop in the price of the likes of 8800 cards.
