ive just put 4 tracks down in cool edit pro and tried to time them properly but they are very slightly out of sync, is there someway i can alight them all to a 'beat' or something, or stretch it so it all keeps in time? ive googled everything, there must be some free thing out there than can keep everything to a tempo?

Did you use a click to record them? Does Cool Edit timestamp audio? I'd probably be able to do it in Pro Tools but haven't used Cool Edit to be honest.
Could you give us a bit more information about how you were recording? i.e. Did you do one track then play along to it? What do you mean by "timing them"? If you were using a click and didn't move the audio around then I don't see how it could have gone out of sync.0 -
i dont know what you mean, im new to this. i recorded 3 guitar parts and 1 bass part through the lin in on the comp in seperate tracks, pasted them where they were meant to go, it sounded ok, mixed it to mp3 and the bassline is off..so now its only 1 track i cant reopen the editing bit where it was different tracks. basically i just have an mp3 where 2 of the four tracks are out of sync.Fr. What do you mean by pasted them where they were meant to go? This is probably where one or more of the tracks went out of sync. Not having used cool edit I don't know why you can't go back to the multitrack editor, unless you've just saved the mp3 and not the session file. Also, did you record to a click?
You might be better off with Pro Tools Free, Audition or Audacity instead of Cool Edit.0 -
cool edits got more effects than audacity..and what is a click? i did save the session file but when i reopen it it doesnt workFr. Stack: While you were out, I got the keys to your car. And drove it into a big wall. And if you don't like it, tough. I've had my fun, and that's all that matters.0

A click track (metronome) so you play in time. Do either Cool Edit or Audacity not support plugins?0
