Does anyone know if you can request for an imperial meter removed and a metric meter installed instead?

Why do you want them to do that?

You could request it, but unless it's due for a meter change anyway then they'd want to charge you.
As above-why? It makes no difference to your billing.

I like to give accurate readings and imperial meters are bloody awful.

You can request it, but unless there is a suspected fault with the meter or it is due for renewal, then the supplier may not entertain such a request. If they do agree to such non-essential change, expect the supplier to charge you for the privilege. Costs typically are in the range £50 - £75

I'm not sure what type of imperial gas meter you have.

If it is one with lots of dials, then this should help you read the meter correctly.

If your imperial meter is fitted with a digital display, this should help you.

    What's "bloody awful" about that?

Even if the supplier does agree to a change of meter, they will not be able to tell you what type of replacement meter (or more importantly the display format) you will get. It'll depend whatever the engineer has on the van that day.

I am currently on my 3rd metric meter, house about 28 years old, so surely any imperial meter should be due change by now.

It's a very old meter with dials, not a digital or barrel display

My house is 113 years old, think it's never had a meter changed

As posted by Atidi, if you have the type of Multi Dial meter shown on his link, I can understand you wanting to be rid of it - They are not only very old, but also notorious for mis-reads, even by meter readers.

If you do have a multi dial, then write to your supplier complaining that the meter is very old, you have difficulty in interpreting it and that it is probably beyond it's designated service life.
Hopefully the supplier will then organise a meter change for Free
