Insurance against hotel double-booking etc?

Hi,
You can picture the scene - I arrive at my hotel, but the hotel has already double-booked my room and there is no room available. Or, they may even claim to have no record of my booking in the first place!
Is there any way to insure against this kind of thing? For example, I may have to stay at another nearby hotel, but the price might be more expensive.
Thanks,
Adam.

Don't think this situation is covered by any standard Travel Insurance. If you had paid the Hotel up front, then you could make a court claim against them, in whichever country it is, if they did not compensate you.
I have had this situation once, where a reservation was made but no deposit or payment made. The Hotel arranged for another Hotel locally who matched the price and actually the accommodation was better.
You could make enquiries with companies such as Direct-Travel who I believe offer some form of 'independent travellers' optional cover. This cover more than standard policies, where there is a disruption to an independentally arranged trip. Essential Travel and others also offer this. Google Independent Travellers Insurance. The comments I post are personal opinion. Always refer to official information sources before relying on internet forums. If you have a problem with any organisation, enter into their official complaints process at the earliest opportunity, as sometimes complaints have to be started within a certain time frame.0 -
You politely ask them to sort out alternative accomodation.
If you booked and paid a deposit or in full make sure you take proof. Thats your insurance.
If you do pay and take proof. Yet they refuse to offer any help. Start setting up camp in the reception area.Censorship Reigns Supreme in Troll City...0
