Anyone heard or understand these shares? are they a good idea? As im thinking of investing...although im not so sure my friend isn't kind of overdoing how well he says this bond with Santander is doing!

Im not too sure, any advice please??!

I know nothing about the investment you friend has, but the stock market did quite well over the last year so 10% is not out of the possible. However, as always, past performance is no guarantee for the future.

Whatever the investment is, I would never make an investment with a bank, with the exception of HSBC tracker funds. Your choice would be immensely limited. Also, investing into shares doesn't strike me as the best approach for a newbie since you do need quite a bit of experience to pick and manage your portfolio, plus you need a fair bit of money before it really becomes sensible to deal in shares.

You'd be much better advised to look into funds, specifically tracker funds. But before you buy anything, you should read a fair bit, e.g. Tim Hale's "Smarter Investing", and the passive investing stuff on monevator.com.

    So this isn't shares then?

Is it a guaranteed product or a bond fund run by Santander?

Is this an investment bond (i.e. the tax wrapper that contains unit linked funds) or is it a corporate bond issued by Santander?

Investment bonds do not pay interest.

I would hazard a guess that it's this one.

    Santander Investment Portfolio

Apparently it used to be known as the Santander Bond Portfolio and changed its name from September 2012.

With no current entry charge as stated then not as bad as first thought although running charge quite high.
