Applying for Student Finance

Hi,

I’m trying to work out family's residual income fordaughter's student finance application 2013 (trying to estimate what she canapply for).

The form asks about tax credits- does tax credit count as income?

I thought Tax Credit (and Child Benefit) didn'tcount as income but it’s one of the main questions on the form. I’m confused! Naturally I’ll declare it but just trying to budgetahead. The direct.gov website is very vague.

Thanks.

It doesn't count as it is not taxable income.

You would be better to find the route to the paper version and the paper version of the help notes. I then printed the notes off & kept referring to it by question.
Or keep it open on the desktop.
There is also a govt website (is it HMRC.) that shows what is a taxable income etc
Finally just because they ask about it doesn't mean thy count if as income.
They use the info but in the calculating they do disregard items. I'm not sure about WTC.
I rang them up yesterday and was surprised they were open and are open today til 4pm and were really helpful.
