Like you I work in this industry, so I can speak with authority on this. I am not proud about what occurs. Equally I cannot make water travel uphill. So whilst the industry demands mediocrity and the customer struggles to receive this, I have to go along with matters.

Of course you don't have to "go along with matters".

Work hard, get yourself into a position of authority - where your voice will be heard and your opinions will matter. That's what I did.

I made myself indispensible so when I spoke they took notice.

Either that or get out of the industry.

Truthfully - You should never do a job you are ashamed of.

As I freely admitted earlier there are good builders, there are poor builders.

I suggest you change your employers and find one you are proud to work for.

I worked for 8 developers during my career. Most were excellent, good quality build, good training, very professional and I was proud to be associated with them.

On my first site job my manager was nicknamed "The Dragon", most of the negotiators were terrified of her. She was a stickler and a tyrant but she liked me because I was so determined to be good at my job. I learnt very quickly and delivered results. Tyrant or no she was the best trainer I ever had.

Although they were quite a large builder, and had "systems" you were supposed to follow to the letter, I didn't always do so.

I simply treated the job as if I was running my own business, and took the initiative, implementing my own systems and doing things the way I thought they should be done.

My sales manager was impressed and often then rolled out my new way of doing things across her patch.

If I didn't like the way things were done on site then I spoke up. Yes it upset a few people at first but they soon realised they had to take me seriously - that I was a force to be reckoned with.

The site agent and the contractors knicknamed me "she who must be obeyed".:rotfl::rotfl:

My fame spread and I was regularly head-hunted.

Furts - if you don't like the way things are done - then speak up.....

You have to stand up and be counted;)
