Can insurance quote history affect anything?

I was just wondering whether past quotations on price comparison sites or insurers' own sites are logged or stored anywhere, and whether this could affect anything in the future?

i.e. is there anything like a credit history for insurance, which stores details of previous quotes?

Yes they are logged. They can pickup potential fraud where you play around with the system to get a cheaper quote.

Do a quote then go back with less time left for the renewal and it can suddenly increase. Seems to pickup you maybe interested and price goes up.

People have been caught out when they failed to declare points when taking insurance, Yet previous quotes have it listed, Or job title tampering.

No - they are only ephemeral and a byproduct of the quote process. There is no central repository holding all your different quotations for review. The firm that provides your quote will have a record of it, but this is not shared with their competitors.

Sorry you are wrong on that, at least two of the largest agregator sites will provide quotation input data to insurers should they want it.
  • Yes your quote details are logged and are analysed in meticulous detail for years and even decades after you got the quote. Main uses are fraud prevention and laziness taxation (where if you come back for another quote it will miraculously be larger than the last time).

If you always tell the truth when filling in the form and sort out your renewal a month before it's due then it doesn't matter that much. If you're a liar or lazy then it works against you.

Uh huh they keep them and in my case admiral automatically took the difference in cost between my early (incorrect quote) where I had points (I couldn't remember the dates, so erred on the side of caution) and my policy taken out by phone where I had checked and had no valid points! All because of a quote somewhere out there in the etha.
