Creating new Homegroup windows 7 issues

About 4 years ago I homegrouped on my win 7 laptop to an now ex's computer. Roll on a year or so and i homegrouped with one of my parents laptops, and it obviously proliferated this homegroup through their windows 7 machines as and when they connected them.

Problem now is we have no original computers that first connected, and new computers can't join it, password is correct, just is unable to connect. I wonder if its because we have no "admin" machine on this homegroup, and no master machine left.

We are unable to find any way to close this homegroup, and open a new one from scratch. No options there, just tells us on all computers to contact the first computer of the now ex.

How can we create a new homegroup from scratch? Could we just rename the wifi connection we all use, and will this prompt us somewhere?

Having googled it, gone through all the reasons as to why the options may not shut up, none of them seem to apply.
