DLA decision - explanation given?

If someone is granted DLA do they receive an explanation as to how the DWP came to their decision? Also can you receive a copy of the reports sent in by your GP and the DWP doctor who made an examination?

I don't think so, well I have never had one, just a letter saying that you have been awarded DLA what components and level of care/mobility. I suppose you could ask them although if you are happy with the decision I wouldn't see any point. Someone in the know here I'm sure will be along to advise.

Not exactly an explanation but the letter usually says what the decision was based on, ie the docs report/specialist/GP etc. You can get copies of the DLA doc's report, not sure about other reports but if you give them a ring they will tell you.

You are generally only given a statement of reasons if you are going to appeal a decision.

If you want to do that, then phone them and ask for a GL24 form.

You can tell a lot about a woman by her hands..........for instance, if they are placed around your throat, she's probably slightly upset. ;)

You can ring up and request either a verbal explanation or a written one. The verbal should be done there and then but a written one might take a few weeks to get to you.

You can also phone up and ask for the medical report if you had an examiner come out to you. Very handy these are even if you are not appealing as they tend to destroy them after 12 months.
