Hi, I am looking to purchase a domain from http://www.crazydomains.co.uk/ for a period of 10 years.
It will remain dormant until I have the cash to create the website. If I decided to transfer it to another host, would it still belong to me for the 10 years or would I need to purchase it again?
I would also be grateful to a step by step guide to getting started, ie domain name, hosting & ?. I will be paying a professional web designer as what I have in mind is quite technical, any idea on costs &/or recommendations? Thanks

Very easy to transfer domain names but i don't think you can buy more than a year or two at a time0

Depending on the registrar you can purchase 1 -10 years.
You can transfer domain registrars if you wish, you might need to pay a transfer fee but it will not be the same price as the purchase of the 10 years. (shouldn't be for a decent registrar anyway!) But you don't need to transfer if you wish to change hosting you can alter the nameservers or A records and such.
EG: you have your domain with crazy domains and host with hostgator, that's fine and won't effect the site in any way.0 -

Thanks for all your replies.
It is the first time that I have come across the facility to purchase for 10 years at a time & it is at nearly half the cost to other providers. Should this be ringing alarm bells? Unfortunately I cannot find any information on crazydomains transfer charges on their website.Comping from May 2012

10 years is the max any can offer, many registrars offer this.
The transfer fee would be charged by the company you move it too. eg: 123reg http://www.123-reg.co.uk/domain-names/domain-name-transfer.shtml
Oh and regarding the site feel free to shoot me a PM and I can point you in the right direction. I'm a designer and frontend developer and work with some backend guys too.0
