I don't think so - for a couple of reasons.

There's some evidence that drinking sugar free sweet drinks actually leads to an overall increase in the number of calories you consume - possibly because when you taste something sweet your body releases insulin in order to deal with the sugar it expects to be on the way. When the sugar doesn't arrive you end up craving something carb-heavy to compensate for the extra insulin floating around.

Also, there's some evidence that fizzy drinks weaken your bones.

    I'll stick to water!

there is some report suggesting you eat more. however I believe that in responsibility not to eat more not the drinks company for offering a choices.

Fizzy drinks contain high amounts of phosphate which leaches minerals from the bones and over a long period weakens them. This is because phosphate is very, very acidic, and the body needs to mobilise alkali minerals to restore balance. These alkali minerals are: calcium, magnesium, potassium and sodium. Calcium and magnesium are ESSENTIAL for bone formation and muscular function, including heart function. Potassium and sodium are essential also for muscle function and intracellular delivery of oxygen.

A fizzy drink now and then is harmless, but every day? No way.

Better to drink milk and water. Milk is at least good for you. Water as you like it, even hot water and milk combi will be better.
I wouldn't touch it with a bargepole coke pepsi or it's non sugar equivalents.

I agree, I love a nice cold glass of milk, and wouldn't touch fizzy drinks, they are scary.

Ice cold water with a lemon slice in it. Best refreshing, cleansing drink ever.

Why are they "scary"? Because some half-educated idiot writing in the Daily Express or the Daily Mail says so, on the basis of an alarmist report written by a publicity-hungry, self-appointed 'expert' with a book to sell or an agenda to promote?

People have been drinking 'fizzy drinks' since the 19th century. It's only relatively recently that the faux-science brigade has decided to launch a campaign against them.

No, there is a lot of medical science that backs up the danger of excess phosphates in the body.

Fizzy drinks used to be drank in moderation and that may or may not have been a problem - research into its dangers or otherwise was not done then. Now there are people who reach for a fizzy drink whenever they feel thirsty. That is definitely not good, but they won't be told, so...

We are eating and drinking increasingly artificial stuff. Medical science is doing more and more research precisely because public health is worse now than it used to be.

Clearly you must live on a different planet. Health in Western societies continues to improve, as does human longevity.

Incidentally, those phosphates you are so alarmed about? The overwhelming amount if phosphorus in the western diet comes from the consumption of meat and dairy products. If low bone density is a concern, there are more serious potential culprits than the occasional fizzy drink.

No actually, western health does not continue to improve. Quite the opposite. Health is more than just longevity. We have more obesity, more diabetes and more cancer rates than ever before and than what we choose to call "undeveloped" societies. The fact we have effective palliative cure and muddle through to old age doesn't come close to the sort of health we could have if we took more care as to what goes into our mouths.

The phosphates in fizzy drinks are not in the same form as that in meat/dairy and is not balanced by other minerals that are present in meat/diary. Phosphorus can be obtained in different forms, of which the one found in fizzy drinks is an artificial (not present in nature).

Even so, just because meat and dairy (which should also be consumed judiciously) give us lots of phosphorus, it doesn't follow that fizzy drinks are irrelevant. Quite the contrary.

We can't continue consuming all this artificial stuff and then blame natural foods for our ills - much as the industrial food manufacturers would like us to as it's good for their business.
