Hello michaels
That's a really good thought - I'll investigate whether I can simply apply again and get the first year free...0 -

I didn't actually ask whether having a cashback card is a good idea, or worth it for me, or good business for the credit card company, but only whether anyone else had been given the same misinformation by Santander!
If we're only allowed one word answers please make your posts more concise and leave, in bold font, a message clearly stating that posters are not allowed to ask further questions, speculate or comment on the wider issues surrounding the product or sale. That's what makes me wish I hadn't asked - because the question just gets lost under lots of opinions about vaguely related issues!
I agree that reference to 12 months should have been overt in the marketing materials. I agree that any sales staff should have verbally drawn the clause to your attention. But you made £32 that a "normal" credit card wouldn't have given you.0 -
I can see why you call yourself "opinions4u"!
I did not call myself a victim.
In future I will leave concise questions only. Consider me suitably chastised.0 -

So much for your principles!0 -
Touche! But actually, my principle - if you read earlier posts - is not to pay for a credit card, so this fits in perfectly.0

I thought it was the massive merchant fees?0 -
Thanks to Th1984 and michaels for taking my enquiry seriously and trying to help. To everyone else, I hope that the sniping and one-upmanship brings you some pleasure - if what you wanted to do was make sure that I am warned off asking anything again, or trying to explain what I really meant, it has worked. My mistake (now corrected) was to think that forums were meant to be helpful rather a showcase for semantics.0

Opps.....Susievintage wrote: ». It's a hassle, now that I have to find another credit card, but I'm not out of pocket.Susievintage wrote: ».
But as they were so unsurprised and so willing to refund the fee, it made me wonder: were lots of people given the same mis-information as me, about the credit card remaining free for current account holders? Is it yet another example of mis-selling?
Its quite common to simply refund for things like this. As it save's a complaint being raised to a higher level.
But given you were missadvised, then a complaint should have been opened.
Time to go back to branch and ask if they have loged your complaint....
As to applying again :rotfl: Well they might let you apply, but, I would not hold your breath on getting one, and then getting hte £24 fee back again.Never ASSUME anything its makes a>>> A55 of U & ME <<<0 -

I expect many people have been given incorrect or partial information by Santander staff, considering how heavily they are promoting this card. Although it sounds like they are doing the right thing by refunding the fee and closing accounts if customers ask.0
