Having to pay insufficient postage

Recently bought a low value item and seller didn't pay sufficient postage. Needed to drive to sorting office and pay £1.09. Seller was going to reimburse.

Had a 'pending' payment from Paypal which has failed. I'm clearly not going to get the money for this. There's nothing I can see for opening a case relevant to insufficient postage.

The only option left is to leave negative feedback. But it did get me wondering how to open a case for this issue if more money was involved.

What did the seller say when you told them the refund had failed?

No response from buyer. I was more thinking what to do in future if this happens again.

I would need to check that any underpaid packet/parcel is an ebay item first before contacting the seller. Therefore drive to sorting office and queue to get that information. Wait to be paid the underpayment. And then go back again to the sorting office.

I'm homebased for work and have had company paperwork from clients be underpaid. I couldn't assume it was an ebay item.

This has happened before and been repaid quickly although still very annoying.

I can only presume that the alternative is to open an ebay case for item not received and not go and collect from the post office. Too late for me now.

Are you sure it has failed? Could it be an echeque which can take a while to clear?

You can open an 'item not as described' case. You have paid for item and postage, not item and some postage. You may find that you'll get £1.09 back quite quickly when the seller has all the funds for the transaction held.

I can only go by Paypal's email which states payment failed. It originally stayed at pending for a few days.
