Jut to update : I called JS this morning and I'm not sanctioned
their system had chucked out the letter by mistake too early. New letters on it way confirming my entitlement - and definitely no sanction

regarding what the OP said about his ex employers being vindictive on a reference....
they are not allowed to say terrible things about you, but they can refuse to give you a reference and that is as bad as having a terrible reference
Nonsense, an employer can say whatever they wish as long as it is honest.0 -

That's good news, although of course you could yet be sanctioned when they look at it fully.Lost my soulmate so life is empty.
