Cheap Courier for Prohibited Goods (ADR) within UK?

Hi!

Does anybody know any cheap UK-to-UK parcel couriers for prohibited goods (ADR) up to 1kg (or any weight up to 5kg/10-15kg max)?

I have realised that neither royalmail/parcelforce, nor my hermes/collect+ don't post such things as spray paints, aerosols, perfums, chemicals and so on. I have got a carton of paint aerosols to be sold by units.

Any advice?

Many thanks

  • You won't find a cheap reputable courier for shipping dangerous goods as the cost involved in processing the required paperwork and ensuring that they are correctly packed is pretty high.

Your only real options are to sell them as collection only or offer to deliver them yourself within a certain distance of where the goods are located.

Thank you for your reply. I believe there should be at least a few couriers offering this service at a reasonable price. I wouldn't like to think that all ebay sellers of chemicals are violating couriers' policy.)
  • Many courier companies would probably love to be able to provide a dangerous goods shipping service for the general public, but as I mentioned earlier, the costs involved in handling and shipping these goods is fairly high and there wouldn't be too many people willing to pay the required fee.

Firstly, everything has to be correctly identified and labelled and then packed in accordance with the required legislation. The packing and certification can only be carried out by someone suitably trained and qualified to do this, and the packing materials must meet certain standards before they can be used.

The reason I'm aware of this is that I am certifed for packing and shipping dangerous goods for air transport, but the requirements for rail and road aren't really that different.

millions of aerosol-packed items sold via ebay; bought lots myself. Never taken records of which courier companies delivered but have noticed the items are always very well packed to obviate possibility of accidents or discharges. Usually bubble-wrapped and boxed.

What happens if you just wrap them up well, post them and don't tell anyone?

Its like when you sell airbags to people, but just wrap them up well and disguise the warning bit on the box, it's what everyone else does.

    Nobody could buy one otherwise.

I have also bought a lot of these and buy it regularly on ebay, even 15L canister of chemicals for £7 postage... I wasn't bothered about it simply if something went wrong, all liability would stay with the sender. In reality, indeed, something might go wrong and I simply wanted to find out if such service exists at reasonable price. At the moment, it sounds similar to young drivers driving without insurance where they need to drive, but can't afford it.
